3 Stars Of The Week: 09/18-25

Despite only two pre-season games being on the docket, some players got off to a hot start to the new season,

The Stratford Fighting Irish hosted the Alvinston Killer Bees in a scrappy, hard-fought contest as both teams found their footing, and players competed not just for the win, but for spots on the team. The Irish outlasted the Bees by a score of 6-4 on the back of their captain Graham Brulotte, already in midseason form potting 2 goals and adding an assist. On the other side of the ice, defenceman Tyson Slack scored double his goal marker from last season, and impressed with his improved scoring touch.

The defending champs continued preperations for their title defence, as the Elora Rocks travelled to Tillsonburg to take on the Thunder. Playing on a smaller ice surface for the Clash At Ribfest, the sell-out Tillsonburg crowd enjoyed a physical, intense affair in which both teams' coaches and management will be left with some tough decisions, with skill and heart up and down the rosters in Elora's gritty 5-4 win. One stand-out however was Elora forward Joey Heath, who had a brilliant pass to set up Yianni Skropolis to tie the game late in the first period. Heath then later added the game winning goal on a breakaway, beating Thunder goaltender Tim Porter five-hole, earning the win for Elora and this week's first star.
